There is no week in the Madison calendar more punishing than the first week of August. UW-Madison turns over roughly 50,000 student leases. Edgewood adds another few thousand. Madison College and the faculty sabbatical bracket pile on top. Langdon Street, State Street, Mifflin, Regent, Spring, and University Avenue dispatch curbs at the same hour. Wisconsin MOOvers carries roughly 60 lease-day moves through August 1 and another 40 through August 15, and Jenny Bauer — Erik’s wife, our office manager, the voice on the line when you call — has been building the dispatch board against the UW academic calendar since the day Erik unlocked the Robertson Road bay in 2016. Slots fill by late May. We do not overbook them, and we do not auction the overflow.
Apartment-move pricing tracks the in-town hourly: $175 with three movers and a truck. A studio walk-up off State or Mifflin runs as a small flat from $565 in most cases; a Capitol Square high-rise unit with a freight-elevator window holds the same number if the load fits the truck-time figure. $225 deposit confirms. Everything the day calls for is folded into that hourly figure: the two W-2 movers themselves, the 26-ft Wisconsin MOOvers truck, quilted blankets, masonite floor runners, two-wheel and four-wheel dollies, ratchet straps, walk-boards, and the January windchill mats we put down off the porch in any month with salt on the sidewalk.
